Mobile Number Portability (MNP)

Mobile Number portability explained

Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is a telecommunications service that allows mobile phone subscribers to change their service provider without changing their mobile phone number. In other words, it enables users to retain their existing phone number while switching from one mobile carrier to another. This process can be quite useful for consumers who want to switch to a different network for various reasons, such as better pricing, improved service quality, or other factors.

If bad mobile network or slow mobile data are interfering with your regular activities, you should consider Mobile Number Portability (MNP). You can completely digitally port your mobile number with the help of 10digi.

How to Port Your Mobile Number?

To port your mobile number to any operator, follow the below steps:

Step1. Generate porting code:

The first step in the porting process is to generate a porting code, which have only 4 days validity after it is generated.

To generate porting code, Follow below steps:

Message:

PORT (Space) (Your Mobile Number) to 1900

Example:

PORT 1234567890 to 1900

Step 2. Get the UPC code:

After messaging to 1900, you will get an SMS from 1901 with your Unique Porting Code (UPC code).

Step 3. Submit the porting request:

Now, provide your porting request to the operator. Fill out the Customer Acquisition Form (CAF) and the Porting Form. After submitted the necessary payment and KYC documentation, you can pick up a new SIM card from the operator from the store.

Step 4. Activation Process:

The moment your current connection may stop working, you can switch to and utilize your new SIM card. It will take 2-3 working days to PORT your mobile number under Mobile Number Portability (MNP).

Within a Licensed Service Area (LSA), such as Gujarat LSA, porting takes three working days. The porting process from one LSA to another takes five working days (for example, from Delhi to Mumbai). Additionally, for corporate numbers, the porting procedure takes five working days. Porting may take up to 15 working days in the licensed service zones of Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, and the Northeast.

An SMS will notify you of the day and time of the porting, which takes place at night and prevents you from the use of your smartphone for up to four hours.

Why Would You Consider SIM Porting?

Better Deals: Mobile service providers often offer competitive deals to attract new customers. By switching providers, you can take advantage of better pricing plans, more data, or added perks like international calling.

Improved Coverage: If you’ve moved to an area with poor network coverage from your current provider, switching to a network with better coverage in that area can significantly improve your connectivity.

Customer Service: Not all providers offer the same level of customer service. If you’re unsatisfied with your current provider’s support, you might want to explore other options.

Technology Upgrade: If you’ve upgraded your phone and your current provider doesn’t support the new technology (e.g., 5G), porting your number to a compatible provider can be a smart move.
